Mathematical Olympiad for Girls
The Mathematical Olympiad for Girls (MOG) is aimed at girls and young women across the UK and consists of five challenging problems.
Entry to MOG is by discretionary entry.
The new Mathematical Competition for Girls, with unlimited entry, will consist of five similar problems, but in the answer-only format.
MOG provides girls with an opportunity to challenge themselves through high-level mathematical problem solving while developing confidence, creativity, and deeper mathematical thinking.

Practise past MOG and Olympiad-style problems
Review key topics such as algebra, geometry, number theory and combinatorics
Focus on explaining solutions clearly and logically
Practise working without a calculator
Develop persistence when tackling unfamiliar multi-step problems
Review official solutions to learn different problem-solving approaches
Use timed practice occasionally to become comfortable with the 2.5-hour format
MOG is a 2.5-hour written Olympiad consisting of five challenging problems. The paper combines short-answer questions with problems requiring clear, fully explained mathematical solutions and reasoning.

Emphasis on reasoning, proof and clear mathematical communication
Partial credit may be awarded for meaningful progress
MOG recognises strong mathematical performance through certificates, medals, and prizes, with award thresholds based on overall competition results each year.
Certificate of Distinction: awarded to approximately the top 25% of participants
Certificate of Merit: awarded to approximately the next 40%
Certificate of Participation: awarded to students below the Merit threshold
From 2026: approximately the top 70 scorers may receive Gold, Silver, or Bronze medals
Medal recipients also receive a book prize

MOG introduces students to advanced Olympiad mathematics and provides a strong foundation for progression to competitions such as BMO1 and further mathematical enrichment opportunities.
